How to Light a Bunsen Burner

 Aim:

I want to find out how to SAFELY light a Bunsen burner 

Method: 

Equipment: 

Lighter or matches 

Heatproof mat

Bunsen burner. 

Instructions:  

 Get your equipment

 Put safety glasses on .

Place the burner on to the heatproof mat  

Connect the hose to the gas tap.

Turn the collar to close the air hole.

Light your match or lighter , put it over the bunsen burner, turn the gas on making sure that no part of your body is over the flame.

Turn the gas off as soon as you are finished with the bunsen burner.

Reading: Activating Prior Knowledge

 When we read something new we are often reminded of things we already know about the text. It might be  something we've done before, read about, seen on TV or seen at the movies. This is called prior knowledge. We activate our prior knowledge to help us understand the text better.  

Mr Mitchell told us that he went bungee jumping in Hanmer with his son, this was similar to the the book read called Jump! Mr Mitchell's experience helped us to understand "Jump!' when we read it.
